Instant product review: Coke C2. And stuff.

So, this is Coke's much-hyped "low carb" offering. That is to say, it's a cross between Coke and Diet Coke, sweetened with a mixture of corn syrup, aspartame, and sucralose. (Why two different artificial sweeteners? Beats me. I'm guessing because Atkins hypes Splenda over Nutrasweet.) Regular Coke is 100 cal/8oz; this stuff is 45 for the same amount. It tastes about like you'd expect: not as good as regular Coke, but better than Diet Coke. There's a faint diet[tm] flavor, but nowhere near as strong as in an ordinary diet beverage. Drinkable, but it's not going to revolutionize the world.

Bonus review: Reddish-plum is a seriously shit-arse color for a PT Cruiser. I did like the black one with purple flames sometimes parked on 18th St., I shame to admit.

I really like good NYC pretzels from street vendors. I really don't like the odoriferous miasma that emanates from bad street vendors who burn or otherwise screw up their pretzels, that reaches halfway down the block.

Wow, 4:20 already. Time flies when you're having sexual fantasies.

Sucralose in C2? Are you sure it wasn't acesulfame potassium (a.k.a. acesulfame-k)? (Update: Just checked--it's all three.. aspartame/sucralose/acesulfame potassium)

FYI: Pepsi EDGE is sugar/sucralose..

And yeah--Atkins/etc hype Splenda over Nutrasweet (not only for health reasons) because you can actually cook with Splenda.. it can take up to something like 600*F of heat before it breaks down...

What makes me laugh, as my friend [livejournal.com profile] andrew_jp_reyes said: "They're hyping how Coke C2 is low-carb... but Diet Coke still has *zero* carbs." (paraphrased)

I wish they'd leave out the damn aspartame. I've been drinking Pepsi Edge as a result, although I actually prefer Coke most of the time. Pepsi Edge has no aspartame, and as a result, doesn't give me crushing headaches.

I'd drink C2 if I could.

You might want to check into Diet Rite and Diet RC cola (if it's in your area). Both of those are sweetened with Splenda (sucralose).

Other things with Splenda now: Diet 4C iced tea powdered mix, DaVinci Syrups Sugar-Free line, Diet Bawls (Guaranexx), and many others.. :) this is just off the top of my head... [and yeah, the diet bawls rox!]

Somewhere along the line I'd gotten the idea that AceK wasn't itself a sweetener, but something they stick in with aspartame to make it taste less like ass.

*nod*.. because they can use less Aspartame/Nutrayuck and more Acesulfame-K to make up for the sweetness. You can buy Acesulfame-K at most stores under the brand "Sweet One".
