SMASH.
Magic nose goblins are all over the system this morning. Connectivity to the NYC dialups went out, and then sorta came back, and then had horrid packet loss, but seems to be okay now. Maybe. Sort of.
And then, NFS...
Once upon a time, NFS errors were a not infrequent pain in the collective ass on the userhosts. Then things changed and we were plagued by them no more. It was a happy, blissful, halcyon time.
Now, for reasons that I wot not of, they're back. Usually manifesting as extreme delays and fuckups when you're trying to hey(1) someone (hey is a homebrew and vastly superior item to replace write(1)), which is a damn big fucking nuisance when you're using it to communicate with the person researching a time-sensitive problem. As extra bonus fun, during this morning's other circus, my buddy NFS locked up my session when I tried to look at the dialup logs after connectivity was restored.
There is no excuse for this week, and possibly not for this month. Destroy it.
