Houses: too much like work.

We're getting ready to sell the old house, because it blows furry chunks to be paying two mortgages at the same time. This has turned in to far more of a circus than anticipated. Rip out the downstairs carpet & restore the wood floors, fine. Arrange for a dumpster for six years of detritus, fine. Drummed up some helpful trade (shouts out to, in order of appearance, [livejournal.com profile] sweh, [livejournal.com profile] dariodevil, [livejournal.com profile] mir_nyc, Megan, Eli, Matthew & Kathryn) to slap a coat of paint downstairs as the walls looked v. dingy in comparison to shiny new floor and help fill up said dumpster; fine. Carpet cleaners to be engaged, our former maid service to do a final clean-up, browbeating PSE&G and the cable company into finally hanging up the cables on our lawn that came down in the storm last summer, fix the goddam dishwasher that already broke once a year ago, rehang the sunroom door the floor people removed, argh argh argh but fine.

The furnace breaking down so that the above work was done in a house pegged at about 40 degrees, seriously not fine. The circuit which controls just about the entire ground floor blowing and refusing to reset, also seriously not fine.

And, of course, this is also cutting deeply in the time I want to be using to arrange the new house to my liking. Bah.
