Bite Me, AV Group

Unlike the other computers around the college, the machines dedicated to use in the larger lecture halls are (in theory) maintained by the AV people, not by the usual technicians. So therefore it's much harder for me to go and smack a bitch when I come back from a new student orientation and find that the lecture hall has attempted to pass my flash card a virus, as happens about 50% of the time. Or when, as happened today, the fucking equipment wasn't working at all.

"Hello, freshmen! I'm from the IT department and I'm here to tell you about all the wonderful services we provide with consummate professionalism! OH EXCEPT THE SHIT IN THIS ROOM WHICH IS BROKEN"

I really hate being made to look stupid. I desire to find someone to express my displeasure to, with a very large stick.

You could put in a complaint to me, which I could escalate to the person responsible :)

Does she use the very large stick to complain to you, or do you use it to escalate? :-)

I'd already sent mail up to AV Guy. He left voicemail to say that the laptop in the room wasn't working because someone had left the battery to run down (which I'd already figured out, and had said in my email that that was probably it) and doesn't know about the desktop that wasn't recognizing USB drives and that if whoever was using it tomorrow (which I said in my email there were orientations next WEEK) could call them they'd "run a tutorial or something".

How far in advance do they tell you which room you'll be in? Maybe you can check everything out the day before or at least a few hours before and then request a switch if it's not working?

I know, this is probably a naive question....

I really hate being made to look stupid.

But, um... at least you're getting paid more to be made to look stupid than you were before?

I'm probably not helping, am I.

Yeah, I asked for that back when I had to do the very first one, so I could practice. For some field of mumbling obscure "reasons" they could not swing it.
