A bit of the old ultra-violence

Once again, aikido makes it all better. Today featured lots of knife work (that is to say, defending against same), including a lovely little technique wherein you break the offender's neck and arm simultaneously. Or, well, you could; obviously you don't have to if you're feeling charitable.

I don't know why I love the weapons techniques so much. Feeling of relevance? Or just adrenaline kick? (Who cares?)

i'm not even sure how i ran across your journal, but I'm all curious now.

oh, and is aikido the kind of martial art a rank incompetent newbie with nonexistent muscle tone could pick up without death by fatigue or embarrassment?

Well, I did under those conditions...I'm definitely on the short-bus end of the class, but nevertheless am getting tolerably proficient.

Expect pulled muscles, even with diligent application of pre-class stretching. Also, drink a goodly amount of water in the two hours leading up to the class, particularly in warm or humid weather.
