Diet, take III.

I am now embarked on my third day of a radical diet plan called "eat fruit, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats". I know, I know--it's edgy. But it just might work. I'm using the extremely detailed FitDay to log all my intake, or at least as best I can; I defy anyone to come up with Official Nutrition Data for yoban, f'r instance.

These, my goals:

* keep between 1200 and 1500 kcal/day
* no more than 15% calorie intake from fat (this is proving a bit tricky)
* at least 65g of protein per day; [livejournal.com profile] simonb recommended to me twice the RDA, but I'm not sure I can do that and keep within my calorie limits
* aikido at least thrice a week
* exercise bike (we found one from like 1960 in Steve's mom's house, and it still works fine; I am hoping he remembered to load it) for a half-hour every morning

The initial observation is that I am fucking starving most of the time. That probably means it's going to work, as long as my will holds out. And it shall.

Keeping fat intake down is always hard I've found; there is quite a lot of fat in modern convience food. That said, today I've got my calories from fat at 9% thanks to the bean casserole thing I made earlier on in the week.

So long as you keep your fat intake down and are careful with things like sugars you should be able to easily eat 2xRDA of protein without too many problems - 65g of protein is only around 250kcal after all.

Yeah, it doesn't help that I haven't had a chance to even go to the store since I got home, so I'm making do with what I can find. But the difficulty I'm having is in finding really lean protein options. I know salmon is a fattier fish as fish go, but I didn't realize we were talking 12g per cup, for instance.

Tuna is supposed to be quite good for you. You could always up your fat intake to a maximum of 20% if you find that you're having problems.

Don't forget that you can use pulses and the like for sources of protein.

Kim had (has!) the same problem. She also noticed she felt a lot colder at night than normal.

Now that my cholesterol's back above 200 (and my LDL is 145, and since my last test, the evil doctor cabal has decided that 130 was too high a limit and 100 is more "realistic" or whatever), i'm gonna fix my bike this weekend and i'm gonna start riding it.

In doing basically what you are over past 3 months I've dropped from 220 down to 198, and more to go. (hopefully)
My constant starvation went away after about 1-2 weeks ...

One bit of advice. You need to allow yourself some leeway in terms of kcal if you need to, especially in the beginning. If you are totally starving, have a piece of whole grain bread or apple _even_ if it goes over your kcal totals. Something you can live with is easier to stick with than lots of punishment ... Remember, it's not a willpower issue, its a change of outlook on what you are eating. You can fill your belly, just not with crap.

Just my $0.02USD And good luck.
