I want a new drug

ThinkGeek has informed us they will no longer be carrying our joy juice. ARGGHGH. (As Eli noted, we're probably the only people who buy it.) There are other sources online to order the stuff, but for all of them, the shipping costs are equal to the cost of the soda itself, which is deeply irritating; ThinkGeek charged considerably less. The aggregate cost for the cheapest source will now work out to some $2.50 a bottle, though I can cut that down to $2.10 if I order 6 cases (!!!). This is in the "to be pondered" pile.
Of course, it's still cheaper than the less-efficacious Red Bull family of beverages...

As a stopgap, I noticed last night that [livejournal.com profile] sweh's local shop had a new Celestial Seasonings tea, "Marrakesh Express HI-ENERGY vanilla spice". It has tea + extra caffeine, ginseng, guarana, and cola nut; i.e., it lacks the ginkgo, the mate', and the betel nut. As I've said before, I think the betel nut is the deep magic, but we'll see how this goes. (Tastes nice, anyways. Vanilla obviously, cardamom, cinnamon, and a bit of anise but not enough to make it blech.)

Just be careful of the betel nut consumption, it's got carcinogens (lots and lots of mouth cancer in areas where it's chewed regularly). Dunno if any tea would have enough concentration to be dangerous, tho, and I expect the delivery system would be less likely to cause cancer (not in the mouth very long, and the stomach lining protects better).

Yeah, I've heard that, but I figure it's analogous to the difference between chewin' tobacco and having Nicorette gum, or thereabouts.

Anyways, when you're drinking the sacred liquid crack, you're much more likely to die of a heart attack or something with all those stimulants. :D God Bless Hereditary Low Blood Pressure!

Which I forgot to say, being a dumbass, that it's betel nut extract specifically. Hence my analogy actually makes sense.

Well, I figured it was an extract or something, else it'd be a very crunchy tea. :)

Not tea. Soda! (http://www.xtz.com/Catalog/Html/xd_kk.asp)

mmm...crunchy soda.
