agh twitch

You might say that the month in which you took a pay cut is not the month to be putting in a bid on a house that is as much house as you can possibly afford. But it's a house I could forsee staying in for 15 or 20 years, or longer. Sufficiently roomy. INGROUND POOL!. Small tidy garden that I won't have to knock myself out trying to care for, but still enough to get my diggin' on. Same area, so still walking distance from sushi and but not actually part of Radburn, so no fees and no wacky regulations.

I am 90% sure we are going to do this, if the banks turn a benevolent countenance upon our needs. But OMG TWITCH.

Best of luck. *sends lots of good karma/mojo in your house-buying direction*

When figuring out "as much house as we could afford," did you take into account the pool maint costs, including property tax boosts and the like? My sister and her husband recently got a house with an inground pool, and they're finding the pool to be a bit of a money pit (and removing it would cost about ten grand).

Yeah, we've got the property tax figures, and we're trying to work in the exact cost of pool maintenance (my grandparents had one but that was 20 years ago). I know it's not insignificant. But, y'know, POOL!.

Best of luck (and skill, and savvy) on the house bid.
Do we get an MLS number?

So, erm, how do I parlay that number into an actual listing? I can find any number of real-estate sites, but none that want to take the number and return a listing.

go to www.realtor.com, under "more search options".

It'll give you a box in which to enter a MLS ID.

I will note that there will be three matches. Choose the one that is most geographically applicable. :)

Ta. Looks like a nice house, but it's not exactly the most useful listing I've ever seen -- and I thought Australian property listings were spartan!

*crosses fingers for you* I totally understand your garden woes, as I have had the both too big and too small problems. Here' hoping.
