internet-wide geekgasm in 3...2...1..

The Plutoesque dwarf planet just discovered, which had been temporarily dubbed Xena, has now been officially named Eris. This would excite me if I wasn't so positive that it's going to generate an enormous wave of tiresome fanwankery.

So does this mean we can use "Eris is in retrograde" as an excuse for being lame now?

I'm obviously missing something about fanwanking and Eris.

I mean, does she even get any fan fiction?

Are you kidding? On this man's Internet? There's fanfic for Young Peasant Woman #2.

Hey! There was a lot of unexplored depth and nuance to Young Peasant Woman #2!

Yes, I thought her "eek!" and interpretation of paralyzed horror were particularly moving. For the 1.2 nanonseconds she was on-screen, anyways.

"Ooh look, everything's going according to plan--Eris must be in retrograde!"

Oh, just -great-. Now they've done it; Eris will probably spin out of orbit, collide with Pallas, and send it onto a collision course with Earth.

(one guess where it'll hit...)
