[time passes.]
[livejournal.com profile] elibalin: Yes, that does sound interesting.
[livejournal.com profile] syringavulgaris: I'm just not sure if the bar will be too, too hipster

It's possible the DNS servers were in the datacenter that exploded. Dunno.

As you've surely noticed, your first-Thursdays-of-the-last-few-months have been conspicuously understimulating since March because of the absence of Nerd Nite. Why? Because Orchid Lounge was in the process of being sold - and has finally been sold! Now, Nerd Nite has no home. The irony of the situation is that the bar was sold to members from Fall Out Boy because the new "punk rock" owners want to create "a bar for all the rejects" yet apparently they're so chic that they won't even return my phone calls. Ah, Corporate Punk Rock "Rejects" Reject Nerd Nite. Kinda funny, right? I can see the headlines now... Actually, someone really ought to write about this..I think it's rather hilarious. Then again, I'm not very funny.

You see, there are mailing lists, which I've been on for, oh, two years now. Despite having never actually gone to either the NYC or Boston instance. I think I was going to post about that particular incident at the time, but then never got around to it. (Well, there were mailing lists. At least the Boston one has since moved to a Google Group, which I haven't been arsed to figure out how to get delivered to me in a tolerable manner.)

(My reaction on learning of the involvement of Fall Out Boy was... not entirely unlike your own.)

Wowser. I am full of the NO WAI! But, as Steve said, it restores my faith in the order of the universe; the idea that Fall Out Boy could possibly be supporting something this nifty just did not make sense.

OH WAIT! Breaking news. (http://nerdnite.com/nyc.html)

Yes, they were eventually able to extract the concession of continuing to use the newly rebadged bar. They may have gotten a bit deathful since then; I haven't been paying much attention.
