Watch Quest, Part ye Seconde

Me: What do you think of this one?
[livejournal.com profile] sweh: Yeah, not bad.
Me: WELL IT OUGHT TO BE. It's a $46K Patek Philippe.

For that cost, will it do all the household chores as well?

That, and hot-and-cold running fellatio, I should think.

I can only assume each component is hand-crafted by Swiss monks.

Aliens. For that price, it better be Minbari.

I bet it won't correctly handle months with 28, 29 or 30 days on its own and for more than $20 that's taking the piss.

if you can afford a $46K watch, you can bloody well afford a maid too :)

FWIW, I really do lurve my Citizen EcoDrive.

You want just a plain gold watch?

If you go to http://www.citizenwatch.com/ you can choose by type of band, color, etc. And, since it charges the battery by light exposure... :)

Just my $.02

There's a classic Mike Royko bit where he's in a bar and a Chicago yuppie is showing off and bragging about his $10,000 watch. Royko's wearing a cheap $5 watch and says to the yuppie "I can do something with my watch you can't do with yours".
"What?" And Royko takes off his watch and smashes it so hard on the bar it falls apart. "And I can do that 1,999 more times before you could do that to your watch!"

Hm. People pay that kind of money for a watch? I begin to see the roots of the financial crisis...

You are under the mistaken impression the purpose of the device is to tell time. Really it's the hardware version of the "I Am Rich" app.

My point, exactly! :)

Looked at Tissot? I have a 30 year old Stylist that I love, despite being bought as half of a matched pair with my ex-wife.

They still do some lovely grown-up watches (you have to wade through Flash-delivered dross on tissot.ch to get to them, mind).

I have a better suggestion: buy him a $20 Timex, and use the rest of the money to buy him disk space :)
