A slice of evil for your morning

For those Gentle Readers who don't keep up with El Reg, /., or [livejournal.com profile] sweh...

Sony music CDs that list as "copy-protected" install rootkits on Windows systems.

("Rootkit" may be a strong word for it, as it doesn't completely PWN j00 as I understand it, but it is definitely and beyond any shadow of a doubt craptastic malware, and it will break your shit in impressive fashion if you try to remove it with standard removal tools.)

So, it was Sony that actually got caught, but one wonders how many other companies are doing similar shit.

Yeah I know... and what's going to be wonderfully icktastic? If anyone sues them, they'll probably get away with it, considering how the RIAA will sit around whining about how it's "necessary for them to keep their copyrights on their music" or some other bullshit. :-\
