Idly curious, I went to see if Hawkwind was playing any gigs around London while I'll be there. They're not, but this led me to the Sweden Rock Festival next June, where they are playing. Along with Judas Priest, the Scorpions, UFO, Monster Magnet, Slade, April Wine, Heart, Nazareth, et cetera, et cetera, and so forth. (Europe is playing too, but I'm sure we can pack a few rotten tomatoes.)

I'm intrigued. More than a bit. And you can camp for free with the price of your ticket (though I bet Steve will fuss if I suggest it).

Edit: Which the ticket price translates to THIRTEEN BUCKS. We pay almost that much for a fucking movie these days. There is no way I can pass this up. (Airfare, shmaerfare.)

All those wacky Nordic countries have ancient laws (still used) that say you can camp pretty much anywhere in the entire country, you just ahve to ask permission if you are within X distance of someone's farm.

FYI, cost of living (like food) is really high over there, even with the $13 ticket and free camping.

Having seen Hawkwind a few times, they always do an excellent show!

Which you are tuned out of The Other Place, I guess? Well, wait, [livejournal.com profile] damerell knows, cos he was trying to get me to go to B-Movie on Friday...

Plan is, I'll be wandering around the city on Friday 'til [livejournal.com profile] sweh gets off work; we'll be wandering around the city again on Saturday (shopping and whatnot), then there is drinks at the Cockpit from afternoon o'clock onwards. (He's going to show me around Canvey on Sunday.) If we can meet up during any of this, that'd be fantastic!

[livejournal.com profile] damerell hasn't told me about it. He's probably assumed that he has, though. ^_^ Definitely tuned out of The Other Place; didn't feel welcome anymore, too many stupid ideological flamewars, not enough fun. Don't even read USENET anymore, actually.

Ummm... have you been mailed phone numbers? If not, I'll do that.

I have to say, LJ has taken a lot of Usenet's place for me. HELP ME GOD

Anyways, I haven't been mailed phone #s. I think I'll have [livejournal.com profile] sweh's Brit-tastic cellphone on Friday from 10ish onwards. I don't know the number, of course. I am the King of Organized.

You are up in the swampy north places, yes? Can I bribe you to come down with a case of nut & cranberry Luna bars?

Contact information sent. We're actually, these days, in the chavvy southeastern places. I forget where Cambridge is (thank *fucking* god), but it wasn't that swampy.

You said Luna bars. My heart throbs.

That was this year's lineup. From the website it looks like only Nazareth have confirmed for next year. Still, should be good if you like that sort of thing.

If you like Hawkwind you might like the Japanese band Acid Mothers Temple who I saw at a festival in March. They do similar acid rock stuff, but with a slight Japanese girl intoning the lyrics. And like all Japanese rock bands, they are quite mad. e.g. Electric Eel Shock.
