Learning by osmosis
Oct. 21st, 2004 01:59 pmYesterday after class, Linna and I hung out to practice for our 4th Kyu test this Sunday. Whereat I learned that I'd been doing most of the suwari waza techniques on said test utterly wrong. Luke and Gavin showed us the correct methods, and I practiced those, but by the time I had to go back to work I was still sucking pretty hard.
Last night, much wakeful panic.
I switched lunch with Claire til tomorrow and went to class today instead, because I knew at least a few other testees would be there; ended up running through the techniques with Linna again...whereat I found I was doing them just fine. Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatically happy that this is the case, but it's terribly odd. Anyways, I've paid my test fee and I'm locked in, let the chips fall where they may.
On the down side, I learned that I've also been doing backward rolls wrong. In point of fact, I've been doing forward rolls as backward rolls. This is perfectly possible, believe it or not. It explains much.
