audiovile are getting dressed while carrying on a discussion of the prevalence of Vietnam-themed hair metal acts during the 80s.
Me: It's probably related to the "upcoming generation" of the time being the first to not have any direct memories of the whole Vietnam thing. So everyone thought it was cool and edgy, because they didn't have any serious social foo attached to it.
Steve: Now, I admit that Grand Island is something of a backwater and we didn't get trends as soon as everyone else, or sometimes at all. But all I can tell you is this: No one at school nor anyone I knew or heard of when I was a kid got excited about Asian stuff before they broadcast the Shogun miniseries. And after that, it was all ninjas ninjas ninjas ninjas ninjas. Everyone wanted to be a fucking ninja.
[Pause.]
