So, Alan Moore's V for Vendetta starts with Evey, the female teenage (16 or 19, I think) protagonist, unable to get work by any other means, so she dolls up and tries her hand (fnarr fnarr) at prostitution. The first john she approaches turns out to be a cop, and he is about to rape her (as he can, under the laws) then arrest her when V comes on the scene and commits some mayhem.

The Wachowskis' V for Vendetta starts with Evey, the adult protagonist, as a worker at the state-run TV station who, minding her own business, is about to get raped by off-duty cops when V comes on the scene and commits some mayhem.

OMG SOOO EDGY bah.

(Let me be clear: I understand that works must needs change when switching from one medium to another. I can even understand making the choice to tone down Moore's work so that it passes in Peoria--I can deplore it, but it is not an illogical decision. But if we are doing these things, we should not claim that we are all hardcore'n'stuff, mmmkay?)
