Steve's flight, after being delayed past the point where he could have switched to Amtrak, has been cancelled, and they say no more planes to Newark today. (He's currently hastening to the Greyhound station to catch the next bus, which will get him in to Port Authority sometime past midnight, Deus velim.)

This is not anything like a real storm! It's a freaking couple of inches, nothing to take notice of, and the winds aren't that strong either. Bah.

To be fair, this storm has hit south of us over the past day or so, and once a handful of airports are affected, the entire country suffers (equipment is late/missing, crews are late/missing, etc). Blame it on the airlines cost cutting and efficiency measures (those damn MBA's again) which mandate no spare equipment to be found.

FWIW, driving out here in the burbs is horrible (the snow is _very_ wet) and my anti-locks were in action every time I used the brakes when I went to the corner station to get gas for the snowblower.

In this case, they had planes, they had crews; it started being delayed due to "weather at arrival city", and then about an hour later just cancelled all BUF => EWR flights. (Other cities seem to be flying in, though. Fuckers.)

Oh yeah, I'll have to dig out the car, won't I, to pick him up from Port Authority. Heavy wet snow, you say? That'll be a treat.

blame the airline then ... sounds like they have a case of head up ass .. and greyhound from buffalo? i feel for him. He should be in a nice foul mood after sitting on a bus for __hours__.

And you might not have much to shovel at all. The snow has tapered off here for the moment (1637 hours), and only about an 1.25 inches (note--unscientific measurement). Now just a light flurry ...

Yes, he is in his happy place.

I'm more concerned about how it's supposed to be slightly warmer overnight--I can picture everything melting a little and then re-freezing, for a lovely coat of glare ice. Fortunately, since everyone in the tri-state area has hysterics and hunkers down with the blankie over their heads when winter weather is forecast, there shouldn't be too many others on the road when I go to pick him up.

Drive safely then (leave early, and no speeding ... )

Me? Speed? I'm shocked, shocked to hear you believe that I would do such a thing.
