Tired, so tired. Game last night, then bull session, then I had to pack as I'm heading to the airport straight from work. On the good side, it is wonderful to sleep on the divine new sunroom bed under my NON-NOISY *ahem* down comforter and my kitties. On the down side, it is not wonderful when the heating comes on at 5am, which in the sunroom radiator is heralded by what seems to be an army of gnomes with hammers pounding on the pipes.

Thankfully the flight to Cleveland is a little under an hour, as the TSA has decreed that airline passengers shall not line up for the potty. (They don't seem to offer an alternative, either; it's the airlines' problem, don'cha know.) These people are completely barking mad. Or playing sillybuggers--can't you just see them, sitting around a table piled high with empty beer cans: "How about saying that belts are a risk, y'know you could strangle a pilot with 'em, and no one can wear belts on planes?" "Dude, no, I've got a great one...we'll say that lavatory lines are a security risk!" (Laughter.)

That is just stupid; it looks like a lot of the current rules are being announced so that they can be seen to be doing something - the link is broken BTW - it has a trailing quote.

The current fun the rest of the world is having is that the visa waver programme is probably going to go a little screwy soon as the US is going to require passports issued after 26th October to have biometric data for people to use it... and if people don't have this then they'll have to get a US visa (in the UK that is £69 per person). If things don't get sorted out with this then the US tourism trade is going to suffer big time (apparently 2/3 of the tourism trade comes from countries which are part of the visa waver programme). See here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3378057.stm) for info.

[fixed the URL--thanks.]

Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] sweh just posted to p.chat about that silliness. If these dipshits get elected again in November, I can't even imagine what sort of nonsense they'll be able to come up with in the following four years. I have a strong feeling that Heinlein will have nailed it, though (see: Revolt in 2100).

QANTAS reckon it's not a problem? They, like the TSA idiots, must all have short legs...

(There are very few openish bits on your average 'plane. Around the rear toilets is one of them. Some of us have long legs and need to stand up and stretch and stuff quite regularly, particularly on the 14 hour joyride that is Melbourne->LA)

The more I think about it, the more I think that if/when I next travel to the States, I'll fly to Canada then catch a train to wherever in the US I'm going.
