I am up at this ungodly hour because I've felt some bizarre drive to conquer yeast baking. Today. (The putative excuse is that I'm on snack duty for the all-day D&D game this afternoon.) Hurdle #1, Did I Get The Milk Temp. Right For The Yeast?, seems to have been cleared in fine fashion, if with an undue amount of wibbling over it. My yeast is happily scarfing, expanding, and multiplying.
I'm using the recipe Grandma gave me for her kuchen base. It makes an Imperial assload of dough (see: getting all your baking done on one day). I reckon I will make two kuchen, and then not sure what I'll do with the rest. Betsey was supposed to mail me with a cinnamon swirl bread recipe from the same cookbook, but she didn't, so I reckon as how I'll wing it.
This would have been a lot smarter if I'd gone to bed before midnight.
