Literacy is security!
Mar. 3rd, 2004 01:12 pmA new virus is out, Beagle.K, which is a refinement of the earlier one that showed up as admin@recipient's-domain whose text made dire warnings about account problems so open this here attachment. This one comes from any of a variety of official-sounding addresses at the recipient's domain, and has varying text, most of which are to the effect of "oooh, we got spam complaints about you, you must be virus-infected so open this here attachment to disinfect yourself" (only in worse Engrish). Judging from the number of copies flowing in, people are swallowing it hook, line, and sinker.
But not here, so much. In the discussion about it on p.questions, one of our users quoth:
"There's no way in HELL Panix would send out an official e-mail message that was so illiterate. Security through good spelling, grammar, punctuation, and grasp of technical details."
My day is hereby made.
