Weekend round-up

Saturday ended up being shaped slightly differently--went to the Brooklyn Museum of Art instead of the Natural History Museum. Well, and that's okay, too. They had a big Egyptian exhibit on, which is always good for getting my attention. Today's factoid: The Egyptians would include statues of hippopotami in tombs for the deceased to hunt...but knocked the legs off the statues to give him an easier time with 'em.
sweh and I also took a brief wander through the Botanic Gardens while waiting for the others (crocuses, squill, and a few early-adopter daffodils; many amusing turtles in the Japanese garden). Afterwards, some time spent figuring out what the next move would be; we attempted to go to Aunt Suzie's in Park Slope for dinner, but the wait was hideous for a party of five so we went back down the block to a J. Random Indian Restaurant which turned out quite acceptable. We split off after that and had a good brisk walk home, which being mostly uphill (that's why it's Park Slope, kids) was doing helpful work at stretching out my recalcitrant muscle.
Today, the weather was nice again instead of the cold-and-rainy we'd been threatened with, so we went for another stroll through the Gardens (
sweh gets free admission for self and one guest with his work ID, we had learned, and so I'm abusing it for all it's worth) which helped burn off yet more of my excess energy. The rest of the day, well, you don't get to hear about that, except perhaps my reverse-Iron-Chef pot roast (that is, try to cook a given recipe only with what you have on hand), about which I'm pleased to say that you can accomplish a lot when your only assets are oil mixed with balsamic vinegar and herbs that's meant for dipping bread, Mandarin Orange Spice tea, and butter.
