Deck party yesterday; quite a successful function. Some of the usual suspects, some very unusual suspects (such as my ex-boyfriend Rick, who I hadn't seen in a great number of years, but who is now married and living out in Joisey somewheres). A new development for our entertainments: croquet, which is admirably suited to the long narrow park behind our house. And it's even more fun after a few beers, I'm here to tell you. I ate like a little piggy thing, which I blame on Warren for bringing this fabulous strawberry cake--by which I do not mean "cake with pink food coloring and a vaguely fake strawberry flavor", but "cake with actual smooshed up strawberries in the batter"--as well as these deadly little cinnamon scones he gets from the local bakery which are to die for. Still, in spite of that, when I counted up the calories the total was only around 2500, so my sin was not too black.

Friday night I'd intended to do party setup and housework and whatnot, but instead drove self and [livejournal.com profile] sweh down to see Beth, who in an altercation with a purse-snatcher got dragged down a flight of stairs at the train station and broke bones in both feet. (He didn't get her purse, though.) So she's immobile and not delighted about it, and needed some cheering-up. Likewise, we are going with her down to Jersey City to watch the NYC fireworks tonight. (Usually they have the show over the East River, but in honor of the Statue of Liberty reopening to the public they're having one of the fireworks barges near Liberty Island.) We're going down early to get a good spot, so there will be several hours of hanging out and drinking and the like.

Tomorrow (day off) is still somewhat up in the air, since I seem to be the only person in this marriage capable of planning more than 24 hours in advance ahem. But the shape that's evolving out of chaos seems to involve me and Brian being here, and Steve and [livejournal.com profile] naudia in the city and then to Brooklyn. I'd originally had the day somewhat cleared to fix [livejournal.com profile] 8782's computer, but it doesn't seem to have arrived at his apartment yet, so I reckon I'll work on Champions until Brian's awake and ready to do things; probably around 3pm, judging by past performance.

I would like to know why I have a really terrible 80s hair metal ballad stuck in my head. I would also like to know how to get rid of it.

Sounds like a fun time was had by all :) I'm sorry I missed it!

As for earwigs--just run the themesong to the Andy Griffith show through your head. That usually makes the earwigs go away.. :)

*pout* sorry I missed the party, I was a bit too ill to go.

Your last line scanned as "...have really terrible 80's hair stuck on my head" and my first thought was, "wait, I'm the one who has permanent 80's hair!" :-)
