War Birds: Diary of an Unknown Aviator. Two American pilots who joined WWI early by volunteering in Britain kept diaries of their experiences, and made an agreement that if either didn't make it, the other would publish the deceased's diary. It's a fascinating book. Go find a copy, if you can.

Also hard--I haven't done much travelling, and down-home stuff is unlikely to be unique as shirleym hails from the same neck of the woods. Um. The Great Serpent Mound, maybe. Or Ft. Boonesborough, KY, though I was like 3 years old and don't remember it anyways.
