Aikido is my shepherd
Feb. 5th, 2003 01:36 pm...I shall not want for bruises.
It maketh me to fall down on tatami mats; it leadeth me beside the meditating students; it restoreth my soul.
It leadeth me in the paths of righteous movements for O-Sensei's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of DSL, I shall fear no stress; for thou art with me, thy bokken and thy jo they comfort me.
Surely gracefulness and ass-kicking shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of NY Aikikai forever.
I worked with a different teacher today. He was a bit better at explaining, in spite of accent, but not as much fun--the guy I had been with (whose name I still haven't caught, and now I'm too embarrassed to ask!) never gives me the fall unless I've earned it, and also puts some force behind when he's doing the throw so I can see exactly where it's happening. If that made any sense at all.
I don't resent it or anything--it's interesting to see different styles, and I'm sure the first guy was getting bored having to nursemaid a dunce like me--but I wasn't having _quite_ as much fun. Still happy, though! (I'm sure an afternoon of DSL will help crowd that nonsense out of me.)
I still fall like a bag of hammers.
