How to be gravely disconcerted.
Jun. 10th, 2004 08:59 amI was working on
zombywoof's Champions character on the train this morning. Deep in hack mode, I registered the fact that the train had stopped, but thought we were only at the Secaucus transfer, where world + dog usually gets out, not at Hoboken (end of the line, where I get off). After several minutes, it occurred to me that we hadn't moved yet; I looked up and realized the train was completely empty. Gosh, that's unusual after Secaucus...look out window. Oh, it's Hoboken. I started packing up my troubles, but then heard the little faint "bing-bong!" which means the doors are closing. OMGWTFetc. I scurried up to the door. Closed. No obvious way to open them. Begin to panic. Move up to next set of doors. Closed. Begin to seriously panic. Look up the train, see train personnel way at the front. Start moving forward and find that the doors in the first car are open. Yay. (Though the train personnel left right behind me, and I presume closed the last doors after themselves, so if I'd dallied any longer I don't know what would have happened but I suspect it would have been in the range from "annoying" to "deeply sucky".)
My brain is still sort of muddled from instant change between Deep Magic and "oh fuck I'm stuck on the train for all eternity".
