Behold, my fortune cat mug. This is my most prized (non-jewelry) possession. Not bad considering it was like $10.

While frobbing the photo into an LJ-acceptable size, it occured to me: the fortune cat on the mug is a simple line drawing. It'd make a pretty easy tattoo. And the fortune cat statuettes are traditionally at the entrance of stores, to welcome the customer and bring luck & money, etc.

I could get THAT tattooed on my lower back! A bit above the entrance, as it were, y'know. Greeting the incoming visitor.

The pooky didn't like the idea one bit, stodge that he is ("I really don't need a happy little cat waving at me when we're having sex"), so I guess I'm going with my initial design.

Mostly a good class today. I was paired with John (not that John, or that John, but the other John; bloody namespace collisions!) who is better than me though not intimidatingly so, and we had a pretty roaring workout for the first half of class. Except for the first five or six minutes, when we picked up a very n00bish newbie who didn't have a partner. It's harsh, but really, there's nothing that boosts confidence in self quite like working with an absolute beginner who is not with the getting it. On the other hand, it doesn't lead to lots of exercise. Anyways, a latecomer picked up the newbie after a bit, and it was high energy activity from that point on. If we'd continued on at that pace, I might well have overheated, but then it was group work for the second half.

I was doing moderately well for the first part of group work (especially after Gavin pointed out what I'd been doing wrong for ...I think it's tenbinage). But then--it wasn't so much that I was having stupid moments; I knew what throws I wanted to do, and was going through the correct motions, more or less; but nothing was clicking. This is a new development and I don't like it much.

Lots of new faces, which are as I understand it people come into town early for the seminar next week. Claire said more and more would be coming as the week goes on--which I was about to say, so Friday will be even more of a madhouse than usual, but I have just recalled that there aren't any afternoon or evening classes on Friday due to the start of the seminar, so Never Mind.

I am kinda bummed to be missing it, this being the dojo's 40th anniversary and so it will be a very large event; but even if I thought I could handle a full week of nothing but aikido in the middle of summer, and even if I had the vacation to blow on it, the Office Mom is going to be on vacation that week so I can't take it off. (When she's gone, I am the ranking person in the office. Fear my totalitarian powers.)
