Instant movie review: Casino Royale
Nov. 30th, 2006 12:04 pm(I meant to post this some days ago, but, y'know, stuff.)
If you go to it expecting A Bond Film (and such is your kink), you'll probably be pretty pleased. As Bond Films[tm] go, it's certainly better than anything that's been churned out in years and possibly even decades. If you go having been given glowing pictures about how this is so much more realistic AND so much more true to Fleming's books, you will be a moderately disgusted panda.
I leave it to you, Gentle Reader, to ascertain which category I fall into.
For either category of viewer: Daniel Craig does a pretty good Bond, golden locks notwithstanding, and I like that he brings a harder, nastier edge to the table. (I could do without his over-emo character arc, but eh.) I would also like to give particular notice to Sebastien Foucan, who plays the bomb-maker that Bond chases around during the first action sequence. The man moves like nothing I've ever seen that wasn't CGI, and frankly, I'd pay $10 just to watch him do his shit.
sweh did some digging and found that he is the co-founder of a discipline called Parkour, and all I've got to say is, I'd back them against ninjas any day. Private to Busiek-era Avengers fans: This guy is totally my pick to play Triathlon.
