Claire and I went to Tchotchke Heaven ABC Carpet & Home during lunch today, to see the Love Your Tree art installation. It was very cool, and I wish we'd known about it sooner; envision a Burning Man chill space but filled with sumptuous, expensive, antique fabrics & pillows & artwork. You can just go in and hang out there, writing or quietly talking or knitting or whatever, and they also have readings &c. Unfortunately it's going away after this weekend. Feh.

Since we were already there, and since they changed one of the restaurants in the store again, we reckoned we'd try it out. It's called Pipa, and though I see that much of TEH INTARWEB seems pleased with it, we were not at all excited. For one thing, the service was exceedingly slow, and this with the restaurant mayyyybe 1/4 full, if that; the waitrons were at several points just standing around looking hip. And then, the kicker... Claire, rather than getting an entree, got soup and an appetizer as she often does; said appetizer was the mushroom croquettes ($7). What she got was three tiny, tiny little items, the size of my thumb. And I have small hands, let me tell you. "Rip off" doesn't begin to cover it.

To be fair, my $10 open-face mushroom sandwich was quite a wodge of food, and it was delicious (sauteed wild mushies, caramelized onions, wilted spinach, and melted Manchego on brioche). So, um, I guess, go there if you get a sandwich and don't care how long you have to wait for your food.

I've been heart-broken since they closed the Parlour. Best fish 'n' chips in the city. (Yes, better than Assault & Battery.)

Pipa sounds tasty. Hm.
