Make way for ducklings!

Walking up our (quiet suburban) street towards the train station, I remarked to
audiovile, "There seems to be a duck in our path." One that wasn't making haste to be elsewhere, as you might expect of wild waterfowl. It became clear that this was because it--well, she--had six wee fuzzy ducklings in her train (*squee*!). As we drew near, she managed to conduct them off the sidewalk with much quacking and threatening looks.
(We couldn't figure out how the hell they got there. The two nearest rivers are about a mile in either direction, which is not so much by car or on wing but it's quite a schlep by duckling waddle.)
