Watch out for that...*crack!*...tree.
Jul. 28th, 2005 09:24 amGot a text message from
naudia while on the train home last night. It seems that the line of severe thunderstorms passing through blessed the next-door neighbor's big oak tree with a specially-crafted lightning bolt, and as a result we now had power lines festooning our front yard like a bad TP job. The cops had already blocked off our street and called the power company, but no ETR.
Skilled crisis manager that I am, I arranged to invade
sweh's house, redirected all Champions players thither, packed up all my DMing shit and all the meat in the fridge and headed over. When the game wrapped up c. 10:30, we still had no power; but since PSE&G was already at work on our block and the weather was much more pleasant in the wake of the front, we decided to sleep at home.
Of course, my genius plan of claiming the sunroom and its delicious breezes was somewhat hampered by the fact that the nice men in their trucks were working some 15' away from the windows.
I did eventually fall asleep, only to be jolted awake at 2:20 when the power came back on...along with the living room stereo. (There is something to be said for devices whose power switches you can definitively perceive as being in the "on" or "off" position.)
