Another happy weapons class. It's starting to draw more people, enough so that there weren't enough weapons to go around. (This redounded to my benefit, as it happened: I'm always the last one in, since everyone else has been there already for the 12:15 class, which means I always end up with one of the enormous heavy chunks of lumber that masquerades as a jo. Since everything was gone, Keith {the sensei} gave me the one he'd taken to use, which was one of the good ones, and he used the display jo from the kamiza. SCORE!~)
Tsuki with jo remains a tricky thing for me. I can do it adequately, but not as who should say well. Part of it is, I think, being short with little stubby arms--it is a long piece of wood that you need precise control over, and the equation of what I can reach over where the balance falls and all that rot does not come out in my favor by default. This is improving, but it's an uphill battle. Having large bQQbies is also something of a hindrance, as you're supposed to center the strike from your chest, and I have all this squishy stuff in the way. Bah.
All (er, most. hasso is still an iffy prospect) of the other jo techniques are coming along nicely, I'm happy to say. Though last week, I was firmly directed to slow down and concentrate on my balance instead. This is the sound of me getting taken down a peg, and rightfully so. I don't tend to get as overexcited in weapons class as I can in regular aikido, I think because it's generally more controlled and formalized, but the potential is there.
