I must go kneecap whoever fucked up the Wikipedia entry for Blue Beetle. Most of it's fine, but I'm sorry, kids, just because Chuck fucking Dixon fails to do a bit of research and says once in a book in which Beetle is a bit character that Ted, in this case, stands for Edward--well, this does not invalidate decades of previous canon stating that our boy's real name is Theodore.

The thing that really irritates me is that I'm now going to have to unpack all my comics, which are all tidily packed up for moving, so I can quote chapter and verse when I go to fix this wretched disinformation.

Or you can wait 2 weeks and do it after you've moved.

Or else move the comics to the house now and unpack them tonight :-)

Remember that DCU continuity is fluid.

It states his full name as Theodore Kord in Countdown, and as you know Countdown (and thus, Identity Crisis and related minis) >>> back issues. Case in point, because of IC, all the heroes know one another's real names, whereas many back issues show that only the specific cliques (the Batfamily, for example) knew one another's identities. So retroactively, his birth name has always been Theodore, regardless of what Dixon wrote. :)

Of course, in Countdown they also have Ted muse about having a brother, which is something there has never been hint or sign of in those same decades of previous canon.

My kingdom for a fact-checker!

Is Ted even an accepted shortening of Edward? Where the fuck do you get the T from?

The same place you get the "N" for "Ned"?

Example of famous realworld "Ted" for "Edward"; Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy.

I didn't even know Ned was short for Edward.

I'm gonna start going by 'Tom', and tell people it's short for Joseph.

Maybe Edward Kord is his twin brother. Maybe it was Edward and not Theodore who was killed.

Uh uh. When Beetle goes to Max's Mountaintop of Mayhem and Googles himself in the OMAC computer, it lists him as "Theodore". And he does not at that time go ZOMG NOT ME!!.

I had to treat this literally because I could see some nudnik down the road actually trying to pull something of this ilk.

Yes..Theodore doesn't scream "Not me" because he's the one googling himself...and getting shot.

Oh, go read the article @ newsarama about the new series and be sad:-)

But but but...considering he's all ZOMG!! that this database has all the info on all heroes, and now he too knows who Superman and Batman and etc. are, if he then found that they got his name wrong then suddenly everything else it contains is called into question, and maybe this is not the universe-rocking phenomenon it was a few minutes ago.

Also, I did. And I wasn't sad, because Ted got a good send-off, as good as one can hope for in that career, so I didn't really expect to him to come back from a ventilated skull. It wasn't until [livejournal.com profile] dariodevil pointed out that Giffen's co-writer on this is the guy who brought us such timeless classics of cinema as The Core and Catwoman that I started writhing and chewing the carpet.

I wouldn't call it a good sendoff...spends an issue with everyone ignoring him, then he's killed.

Should have motivated a story over the big 3 being ashamed of their behavior that led to his death..but nope...

Bah.
