Dear Mom:

Ever since I was very small, you would always have us making out Christmas lists so you knew what we wanted. This seemed like such a good idea, I've forced everyone around me to do the same (or at least, until Amazon wishlists came along and got world + dog into the habit anyways). That being the case, you'll note that a Sony Network Walkman[tm] was not on said list. The reasons for that are:

1) Sony sucks and we don't like them for their rootkit bullshit, so we are not buying their stuff.

2) I told you I was going to live and die with my Minidisc player, and didn't want an MP3 player, because I am a sucker for dinosaur formats.

3) Something I did not know before this appeared on my doorstep and I popped the seal, rendering it unfit for return--this isn't even an MP3 player. You have to take your enormous digital music library & transfer it into their fucking proprietary format (the "SonicStage Library[tm]"), thus taking up twice the disk space, before you can actually put it on the portable wossname.

I appreciate the thought, really I do, but this particular item shouldn't be owned by anyone, and it definitely shouldn't be owned by me.

Love you lots,

me.

Edit: God Bless Our Web! It seems there's a wotcha you can download to send it MP3s. You can only store about 1/3 the amount of music, but That's Okay.

The thing I found is a link to a downloadable on Sony Asia-Pacific's web site, viz. http://www.css.ap.sony.com/consumer/template/DDSummary.aspx?Id=44358&Category=Personal+Audio (http://www.css.ap.sony.com/consumer/template/DDSummary.aspx?Id=44358&Category=Personal+Audio). If there's something even more suitable out, I'd be delighted to know of it.

depends on the model and your intended use. the sony doohickey works well enough for windows users, but if you're on a linux box have a look at http://www.waider.ie/hacks/workshop/c/mple/
