So, an NPR story this morning: In which a fellow who heads an evangelical Christian church somewhere in Jesusland got caught up in the Abramoff scandals.

According to the pastor's story, one of DeLay's staffers (Edwin Buckham) came to him some years ago, joined his little flock, became known to them as a "good Christian", and then after a time said that he was going to be starting a grassroots organization "to bring the country back towards God" and would the pastor like to work with him in this noble endeavor?

Thus was born the U.S. Family Network. Which, the pastor noted eventually, had a lot of money going in very odd directions indeed--like, sweatshops in the Marianas Islands. Long story short, he realized that he'd been used as protective camouflage, and is very unhappy about the whole thing, and is upset that his fellow-travelers are still defending DeLay et al. as "good Christians" when obviously they are no such thing.

And thus double your pleasure: 1) Someone who spends much too much time thinking about how other people should live their lives received some karmic comeuppance, and 2) even the blinded nudniks of Jesusland are starting to figure out that these fuckers are not on their side either. Ah, the sweet sound of a voting bloc fragmenting--!

I love religious groups that buy a 15 year lease on a skybox to watch the Washington Redskins
