I feel that I want to take a Brillo pad to the faces of the writers and artists all.
I feel like none of them have ever read a comic containing Nova in their entire lives. I feel like the writers were told "oh, um, yeah, he's sort of like Spider-Man with a bit more attitude". Seriously--you could plug in any late-teen or early-twenties Marvel hero right there. Generic. Utterly generic slightly witty dialogue.
I feel the artists don't know what humans actually look like.
For some reason, some people still like Abnett & Lanning's writing. These are the people who drove me off Legion of Super-Heroes after I'd successfully weathered the Bierbaum era, and made me glad Death's Head got cancelled.
There's some good bits in Nova #2, but they are bits that could be given to almost anyone, as you point out.
