In the course of discussing a user who has asked us to point his MX to a 192.168.x.x address, for the second time, [livejournal.com profile] elibalin and I have birthed a thought-child of heroic stature.

What ever happened to pointing the MX to the requested address and waiting for the luser to realize that wasn't what it wanted? For added joy, of course, also skip happily past the concept that an MX target is a name rather than a dotted quad. When they call back, dwell heavily on the fact that you changed it to exactly what they asked for, so the change couldn't possibly have been, like, _wrong_ or anything.
