Oh, maybe I should look into this South Beach thing. I've been trying to eat more veggies, and I'd *LOVE* to eat nothing but eggs for breakfast every morning. I ate an egg salad sandwich for dinner last night! HMMMM.
It's pretty simple: In phase one, restrict eating to lean meats, eggs, lots of non-starchy veg (so no potatoes, carrots, corn), reduced-fat cheese, and a limited amount of nuts per day. Olive oil is okay if you don't go crazy with it. No bread, rice, or sugars at all. No dairy other than the above, and maybe a splash of milk in your coffee or tea. (They say, decaf only. I say, bite me.)
You're supposed to do this for at least two weeks (longer if you can stand it).
Addendum... It is "safe" to continue with phase one if you have a lot of weight to lose. In the book I read, and I'm told there have been some updates, it wasn't actually encouraged. Review by dietitians reflect the sentiment. Phase one serves as a purging stage, and is safe for limited amounts of time. If memory serves, I believe it specifically says no longer than a month, as if anyone would want to do it that long.
What about the turkey sausage? Or soy crumbles? I throw cheese and salsa on my omelet in the morning, and often a dab of sour cream. Then again, when we have chicken salad, I sometimes just have that and some celery. Not being snarky, seriously, just trying to help. Is there anything I could make in advance that you'd like?
