National End Of Summer Weekend, or something

Am trying to book hotel space in Melbourne for the weekend of Mar. 29-30th. I'm not saying that it's a Bethlehemic You Are Staying In A Stable situation, but availability is definitely...limited; more so than I would have anticipated this early out. Is there something significant about that weekend that I wot not of? Will we be dodging hordes of $FANGROUP on the streets?

Yep, that's fairly standard over here. IIRC our autumn, winter and spring term holidays are all two weeks, with a 6 week break over summer. It works out to 40 weeks in the school year anyways...

Hmm, hereabouts the youngsters (& their teachers) get 9 weeks off in summer, 2 around christmas, one in February and about one around Easter. Works out for about one more free week per year ;)
