Tux, a.k.a. Fred, a righteous, cool, smart-ass cat about town, died while we were at work today. I knew he hadn't been feeling well this weekend and so I was going to take him to the vet tonight if he was still poorly. I waited too long.

My fault, my fault, my fault.

Not yo fault, bitch. If it was his time, it was his time.

Don't be so hard on yourself. And hey, one less cat to find a home for.

I really can't look at it that way. I've known him over three years, he's slept on me, his picture is my work laptop's background image.

In that case, he lived a great life. And it's still not your fault.

I'm sorry. Was that the cat you were talking about today? I thought that was somebody else's cat you were talking about. I didn't realize.

As Facebook says, "it's complicated".

Tux is not MY CAT (a set which contains only Mage and Ranger). But I knew him well from the time that [livejournal.com profile] dariodevil took him in--he had started as yet another cat that someone on [livejournal.com profile] nedlnthred's street had put out--until D. had to move back in with his family and could no longer keep pets, upon which time Beth and I took over joint guardianship until we could find him (and D's other three) another home. But those four were my especial care, 'cause I was closer to them, and because she had her hands full with everybody else.

I'm so sorry. Having known Tux before he even had the name Tux I know what an awesome cat he was. Not your fault, don't beat yourself up, you took good care of him.

So not your fault. The day we humans know exactly what's going on inside a cat's head is... well, it's the day we all run around screaming, I imagine, but until such point as human/feline telepathy is perfected there's no way you can be blamed for this.

*hugs* I'm sorry for your loss.

Aw, hell.

Not your fault, not at all. And (speaking as someone who's lost a couple of cats to slow-acting old-age ailments) from the way you were describing his behavior the other day, the vet mightn't have been able to do more than help him on his way.

Here's still another voice saying that it absolutely was not your fault. There was probably nothing that could've been done, so you spared the poor kitty from spending his last hours being poked and proded and made miserable at the vet (which some cats also find to be very embarrassing) as opposed to resting comfortably at home with his kitty pals, where he hopefully drifted off peacefully during a cat nap.
