2. Pick up button from dresser.
3. Put button down to hunt for sewing kit.
4. Find sewing kit.
5. Fail to find button, which is large and sparkly and really should not be missable.
6. No Profit.

I assume that you checked your pockets. I'm often amazed at what I find in my pockets, even tho clearly no one but me is putting things in there.
