Instant Movie Review: Watchmen

(Yes, I only just got to see it. I've been busy.) elibalin, nedlnthred, and I went last night. We had the perfect mix: Beth had never read the comic, I had but not recently, and Eli had fairly recently. We all give it the Thumbs-Up of Approval. No, of course it's not as nuanced, how could it be? but I think it transmitted the central theme well. The casting choices ranged from "does the job" to "fucking brilliant": that Rorschach was picture-perfect, let me tell you. I was also getting a large amount of nerdgirl happy over Blue Beetle Night Owl. Yes, yes, yes.

I saw a DVD of "Tales of the Black Freighter" in my FNCS; I wonder if that means they'll cut it together with the film for ultimate release?

Also, let me take a moment to indulge in the happy of being home in half an hour after leaving the theater.

I'd never read the comic (as a general rule comics plus half-blind people do not bode well) and I loved the movie. My nearly-seventy-year-old mother, however, was not so keen.

Note to self: Read reviews before taking mother to see something.

Don't feel bad...when we went to see "Pulp Fiction" oh so many years ago, we watched a couple of nuns turn tail and run about 5 minutes in...

I saw 300 at a matinee showing...the majority of the audience was families with children under 12. :)

A guy here in Eugene went to see Watchman last night in the theater, and shot himself halfway through (according to the news). I'm glad none of you had thatexperience.

Yes, they're going to cut the Black Freighter in eventually. Or that was the last plan I heard.

I'm not sure how well it stood up on its own. "Behind the Mask" was at least cute.
