*poke self* That means you. Be happy and excited. There is to be happy joyfulness tonight, so BE READY.
It might be low blood sugar, but I'm just not hungry...
I was World's Biggest Luser on Tuesday; couldn't keep anything straight. We were working on throws that start from an opposite-hand attack, but when we got to a new one I kept swinging back to attacking same-hand. DUH. This is the problem with having morale-based skills; when my confidence is at low ebb, I become less competent than the average bear (which then feeds into morale problem, making my confidence even lower, etc. etc.)
It turns out that the fellow who'd been teaching Tuesdays this past month is _not_ the normal Tuesday sensei. Brane hurt. He happened to work in the same small group as I was in, though, and was very kind--for instance, he was the first to reassure me about how it's really hard to get yourself up to speed at first, and how you just sort of have to hang on until things start clicking. I felt a bit better after that.
Yesterday I worked with a Japanese lady named Noriko. At first I sort of got the impression that she was bored or at least unthrilled about working with a novice, but that changed (or else my impression did; hard to tell). She, too, was sort of "giving" me the throw--whatever the opposite of "being strong" is in aikido terms--but on the other hand, it let me concentrate a bit more on what I was _doing_, which is not a bad thing, and I got a lot less flustered. (Humor note: I was puffing and panting by a half-hour into the lesson, and she was as cool as could be. Then she let me know she'd been at the dojo since 6:30am. Good grief!)
I'm no longer moving like a war veteran the day after a class--today I feel a bit of tightness in some muscles (rump and shoulder for the most part), but otherwise in good order. Yay.
In other news, the Covad shit sandwich keeps getting new condiments. Today's special: they do not give _any_ credit for _any_ aDSL outages, no matter whose fault. The rationale here is that it's a "best effort" service, and their best effort includes no speed. Um..._what_?! I can only presume that Speakeasy must have some sweeter deal for people to be so happy with Covad Service Brought To You By Speakeasy.Net. (Either that, or they're losing money hand over fist.)
Last night's game left us with a collective case of blue balls--we sent reams of email through the week working out A Cunning Plan (and it was, too!), and it actually worked, until one fatal flaw. This placed us in a very bad situation and we retreated with our tails between our legs. A negotiated retreat rather than a beaten-off-with-sticks, yes, but humiliating none the less. And, little to no action. Sigh...
