It's a beautiful day...outside.
Sep. 5th, 2003 02:07 pmBut I'm here in the office. Sigh. Still, it's nice to know that it's lovely and sunny and cool for everyone who isn't. Sort of.
Today I am chiefly employed in saving our DM's sanity. See, we have this guy in our group. He's generally lots of fun to have around; he plays a bard, and actually will burst into song at good moments, and can come up with spur-of-the-moment appropriate filks, etc. However, he is also--how to say?--creatively incontinent. He bubbleth over with gallons and gallons of ideas for everything: character classes, magic items, what have you. And most of them do not have the slightest nodding acquaintance with game balance or rules structure. And when I say they are unbalanced, I mean that they are a hundred times more so than the most munchkinesque offerings to be found on the WotC message boards. Words can't really express the imbalance. You lose 2d6 SAN (to really mix my metaphors) just by viewing it. I'm serious; one look at his proposed prestige class and I literally sat in my chair and gibbered for a few minutes.
And yet he seems like such a sensible, reasonable person...
So anyways, our poor DM has been deluged in this sea of chaos for weeks, and finally asked if I could lend a hand (I'd tightened up the proposed prestige class for one of the other players, and I guess he liked my work). Because I must needs be tilting at windmills, I gave it a shot, and I think I've come up with something workable. Of course, I'm sure the recipient will find it utterly beneath what he wants, but, well, I'm sure we would all like to have feather fall AND +4 Charisma AND Power Attack with rapier AND Weapon Finesse with longsword AND all healing & summoning spells on the bard spell list AND max ranks in all perform skills AND increased movement AND never-ending magic arrow supply...all at 1st level.
But we don't get that, and neither do you, bunky.
Point of self-aggrandizement: I have lost enough weight that I can wear my class rings again. Go Me. It feels really weird to have a second ring (especially a heavy one like my Columbia ring) on my left hand.
