Oct. 23rd, 2003 09:34 amMost. frustrating. morning. EVER.
Beth and I are going to a fund-raising gala tonight for a theater company. It's dressy, though not quite the nines (so I still can't wear my floor-length sapphire evening gown, *sigh*). I intended to leap out of bed at the first cry of the alarm, because I always go through the oh-God-I-hate-all-my-clothes ritual for things like this, and I wanted lots of time to, y'know, have breakfast and stuff.
First setback: the alarm wasn't on. Apparently Steve turned it off yesterday morning. (Riot act duly read.) We woke up at 7:30, which still gives me 45 minutes, but I knew by experience that was going to be pushing it. However, I surprised myself by coming up with an outfit fairly quickly: to wit, a long black skirt I got a few weeks ago, and a black-with-gold-sparkles sleeveless (and sorta see-through) top I got months ago but haven't worn yet.
Second setback: accessories. I have nothing, repeat, NOTHING that goes with this. I went through my entire jewel box. Gold pendants sort of fade into the sparkles; black necklaces fade into the blackness. Pearls look...wrong. The closest thing I had was a gold lace cameo with a circle of rhinestones around it, but it's a pin, and it looks wrong high up on the collar. The one thing that might have worked was my rhinestone necklace...which I can't find anywhere. Finally I just grabbed a pair of earrings and ran for the door, stopping only to snatch up my good winter coat...
Third setback: ...which is now horrendously too big for me. I mean, we're talking gunnysack here, for a coat that's supposed to hug your curves. So I felt like a zhlub the whole way into work, too.
Gaaah.
