It never rains but it pours

Just got a call from Buffalo; it seems that Steve's mom's kidneys have reported AWOL. Or, one isn't working and the other is barely working. (I gather she's not in peril of her life right now; I'm not real clear on the details, but it seems to mean there will be dialysis and other major life adjustments, to put it delicately, but no "imminent threat" as the government says.) So we're going to leave Cleveland early Sunday, drive to Buffalo, and then home from there. That's a grand total of 18 1/2 hours of driving in 52 hours of weekend, for those of you keeping score at home; Bataan Death March, indeed. I can handle the travel bit, anyways, for I am mighty; but even were it just that my poor pooky would be a wreck on Monday. Adding in the various emotional pressures on everyone involved...oy.
