Having been a member of the dojo for ten months, I have finally taken one of Yamada-sensei's classes. (The only lunchtime class he teaches is Thursdays, when I usually have a lunch date.) It was enjoyable, though awfully crowded--at least by what I'm used to; the 5:30 is, I understand, a madhouse. Sensei is amazing at being wherever someone needs correction, and correcting them in about ten seconds flat in a way that makes everything perfectly clear, before teleporting to the next location--all the while moving at a stately walking pace.

I think this might turn out to be my first 5-practice week. No wonder I'm tired.

A pleasant evening out at the pub, entertaining an out-of-town college friend. This was capped by pooky and I making our train by >< that much...but we did make it, which makes it stylish instead of clumsy. See. Anyways, there was much fun conversation, about RPGs and old computer games and OSs and whatnot. You know, the things which are decried as "pathetic geek stuff"...but at least it's better than stock portfolio dick size wars.

Must get off silly computer and tidy up, because we're going to be away and I bloody well hate coming home to a messy house. And this I shall accomplish...soon. Really. In the wake of the above discussion, I'm feeling the urge to play old computer games, or maybe Baldur's Gate or Nox which don't quite qualify as "old". Work first, though. I mean it. Honest.

Not looking forward to this weekend, but I know I will feel the worse if I don't go. That's that whole "experience" thing.

Just got a call from Buffalo; it seems that Steve's mom's kidneys have reported AWOL. Or, one isn't working and the other is barely working. (I gather she's not in peril of her life right now; I'm not real clear on the details, but it seems to mean there will be dialysis and other major life adjustments, to put it delicately, but no "imminent threat" as the government says.) So we're going to leave Cleveland early Sunday, drive to Buffalo, and then home from there. That's a grand total of 18 1/2 hours of driving in 52 hours of weekend, for those of you keeping score at home; Bataan Death March, indeed. I can handle the travel bit, anyways, for I am mighty; but even were it just that my poor pooky would be a wreck on Monday. Adding in the various emotional pressures on everyone involved...oy.
