I shake my walking stick at mouthy youngsters Bowling For Soup, whose song "1985" is all about me. I am not a cliche! I am a free woman! And besides, it's not my fault because I was too young to really enjoy the 80s, I just got to watch my big sister having fun.

What's not just a river in Egypt, you say?

ObCurrentMusic: I keep forgetting this song until I hear it again and remember how much I love it, probably due to shameful guilty feelings about liking a song that is solidly, unarguably pop. Steve points out that pop qua pop is not evil; shitty, boring pop is evil. Whereas Lindsey Buckingham is brilliant, so it's okay.

...And then I just charged downstairs like blood and thunder because they were playing the video for "Love's Great Adventure". I guess that almost has to be pop, too. But it's different somehow. You'd never hear that on Lite Rock 10X.X, Music For Your Morning Brain Rot.

You know you're getting old when music you didn't like as a kid now sounds good, simply because it's so much better than a lot of the crap around today!

I liked a lot of the early 80s, the mid 80s had good and bad stuff, and by the late 80s I'd really stopped listening to much new stuff. But now I'd even listen to Madonna's 80s stuff rather than half the crap that's out now.

You keep forgetting "Go Insane"? It's played enough on VH1-Classic!

"Love's Great Adventure" is pure pop. But it's good pop :-)

For a long time i said that Lindsey Buckingham's Out Of The Cradle was the poppiest record i own. I think that might still hold.

Fortunately for me, most of the stuff i liked in the `80s really doesn't sound good to me now.
