Yesterday's paintball experience was a perfect slice of what I hear the Army is really like: a whole bunch of hurry-up-and-wait. I started the morning by falling down the stairs, and that really set the tone for the day.

The gory details. )

It's indicative of the lameitude of the experience that my worst pain is my tailbone from falling down the stairs. I have one welt between my shoulderblades that doesn't feel too great, and other than that, nothing to let me know I was out there. Feh.

I nearly bailed on class today, on account of sore tailbone, sore welt on my back, and our old friend Mr. Lower Back Pain. But at the last minute I went anyways, and it was Good. Yay, endorphins.

I reach the conclusion that, in a real-world situation, should someone get ryotetori (that's them grabbing both of your wrists, from the front) on you, you had damn well be taking them by surprise or you are bobopoked, as they say in the land of my people. Of course, for a lot of grab techniques, you don't want them to actually get the grab, you sort of lead them; but some things require that they be attached to your arm. This requires testing in a non-classroom setting. See, this is why I need to get into bar fights! It's for Science!

Stupid sight of the day: Bed Bath & Beyond is selling, wait for it, S'mores kits. They come with a little burner thingy, skewers, and ceramic containers to hold your graham crackers &c. I can't conceive of a commercial product that utterly misses the point quite so dramatically.

Dealt with the new sunroom bed today. That is to say, it was delivered yesterday, and yes it was the bed we wanted, and it was the correct size (full), but it is the world's thickest mattress; so that plus box-spring plus (low, basic) frame made it insanely high and it seemed to take over the room. So tonight we just took away the frame, and that seems to have done the trick. I'm not sure all the fitted full-size sheets we have are going to fit on it, though.

Steve and I just watched Raising Arizona, which is one of his favorite movies (I'd never seen it). Wacky and good, and strangely reminiscent of Wild At Heart, in a way I can't quite explain. Not just the presence of Nicolas Cage, either. Though in spite of the scary hair and 80s Selleck-esque mustache (ew) he sports in this one, I still would cheerfully crawl over broken glass to reach him, oh my yes.

I guess I'm still channeling Delirium from Halloween: "The word for when you want to be closer friends with someone but they don't seem to want to be closer friends with you. There needs to be a word for that."
