Abdominal ultrasound: nothing. Blood test: various stressors from, oh, NOT EATING, but nothing diagnostically significant. Chest x-ray: will be back this afternoon, but I'm betting nothing there, either.

They've given him an appetite stimulant and he's started chowing down in his normal piglike fashion--he's already gained a pound back just since being at the hospital.

Probable diagnosis: Mage is a drama queen who has decided to go on hunger strike over some vexation instead of peeing on the bed (his usual protest statement), and as cats will, got into a state where having not eaten for awhile he doesn't feel like starting again. If this be the case, it's just a question of jump-starting him with appetite stimulants for a week or so and then he should be back to normal.

Until the next stressor.

Like moving.

Gah.

Hmm. Kitty Valium and a Cat Hypnotist!

"This is not a new house.. this has always been your house.. "

Of course, you always run the risk of Mage telling himself...

"How do I work this? And you may ask yourself, Where is that large automobile? And you may tell yourself, This is not my beautiful house!
And you may tell yourself, This is not my beautiful wife!"

But then, he'd be David Byrne.. :-)

Maybe there's a way to gently introduce him to the new digs?

In truth, we don't know if that will set him off. Because we don't know what's set him off this time. We've moved twice before with him, and on neither occasion did he exhibit any protest other than hiding under convenient furniture for the first couple days; so it might be a non-issue. It's just that moving is one of the commonest reasons, sayeth the vet, for a cat to get all upset and stop eating, so I'm borrowing trouble.

If you're lucky, it's just Mage anticipating the move, and making you pay ahead of time, instead of extending you KatKredit.. ;-)

It doesn't sound too hard to solve, though. Here, kitty kitty, eat these drugs OW YOU BASTARD ... *scoff*scoff*scoff*.

That occurred to me: presumably if this crops up again, we can solve it without four digit price tags of medical procedures. Sure would be nice.

When Roger got really really deathly ill, it turned out that he had formed an allergy to his cat food. Sounds like you all have everything, so you have probably already tried changing that, but I thought I would mention it.

Well, but he was turning down wet food, too. And canned salmon. And people food. Only thing he'd chow on is tuna.

Though, as you say, it could have started there...
