[livejournal.com profile] syringavulgaris: "SpaHa", forsooth.
[livejournal.com profile] syringavulgaris: I really want to start smacking people.
[livejournal.com profile] elibalin: Er? Where's that supposed to be?
[livejournal.com profile] elibalin: Really. I'm not sussing it out.
[livejournal.com profile] syringavulgaris: Spanish Harlem.
[livejournal.com profile] elibalin: Oh for gosh sakes.
[livejournal.com profile] elibalin: I would like to exile these people to the glamorous archipelago of StatIs.

Heh. Matthew coined one once: SoWeCo for the Bronx (South of Westchester County)

As [livejournal.com profile] dagnycat522 commented further on, we already have "SoBro".

Sadly, I'd already heard that one. But did anyone ever figure out what NoFi was?

Also, the ludicrous venality of your real-estate culture appears to be contagious (http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2005/09/05/sowa_eabo_boston_plays_name_game/).

I thought NoFi was alternative rock recorded on tree bark using paper cups tied to strings.

No, that would make sense, so it clearly can't be called that.

Oh god. Also, are they still calling the South Bronx "SoBro"?

Yes, yes they are. (I need a proper *facepalm* icon.)

Damn. And I was picturing a nice weekend getaway relaxing in therapeutic hot springs while sucking down nitrous oxide.

I just can't stop making these up:

GULog: "ground under Logan" = Boston-area real estate in path of night landings. "In GULog, lease breaks YOU!"

NYSE: when global warming raises the sea level, this will refer to buildings west of Hudson Ave., at "New York's Sinking Edge".

SoCo: the area just south of Columbia University, whose streets are often overrun by drunken undergrads.

POSt: "part of Staten." Also the neighborhood's favorite paper.

Will-E: Bed-Stuy. They might already be using this one.

It is, indeed, already "E. Williamsburg". Will-E is better, though.

In fact, it was “East Williamsburg” or even just “Williamsburg, no, really” five years ago, IIRC.

SoCa is that scary bit of Bandit Country where the White World enclave of Columbia runs out and the furthest northerly extents of the echt Upper West Side fail to reach; it's the liminal world of fist-fights between harridans in Duane Reade, of African-American men face down on Cathedral Parkway at 11 AM. Its borders are probably 112th St to the north and 96th Street to the south.

Psh. 110th to 112th is safe as houses, unless things have changed considerably.

And, of course, we all live in WoC.

West of City.

We'd always said "The Far, Far West Side" but that abbreviates poorly.

BECAUSE THE OTHERS ABBREVIATE SO WELL, OF COURSE dksflja;jkdfauiorepjfkl;ajfd
